As has often been mentioned on this website there are many sightings of mysterious movements or phenomens on or in the Lagarfljot lake. Is it the wyrm or some other monsters? Usually the eye-witnesses don’t have their camera by hand. But sometimes they have, just like Hjortur Kjerulf in February 2012. Our Wyrm in River Monsters
Jeremy Wade was one of those who visited Lagarfljot region last summer after having heard about the lake monster in the world news. He spent some time trying to catch our wyrm and of course he dropped by at Hjörtur Kjerulf’s home and got good advice and description. This episode in the 5th season of River Monsters is called Legend of Loch Ness and will go out on Animal Planet US on 27th May.
The head of the monster?
The winter is drifting away around the monster lake. But the ice on the shore has various forms, some of them reminds you of the mysterious creatures that many have seen in the lake. This is pictures taken yesterday in Atlavik where the north wind has blown drifting ice to the shore and the sun has melted it into forms. Is this sculpture a copy of the monsters head?

The Worm Monster – fact or faked?
A group of experts from the TV program Fact or faked came to Iceland last spring. They did research the location where Hjortur Kjerulf shot his footage in February and tried to make things moving in the water there just like the “monster” on the footage. But they also went out to the big Lagarfljot lake in hunt for the worm monster. The episode can now been seen on the web.
The eye-witness visited by TV-star Villi naglbítur
Villi naglbítur is an Icelandic TV & Rockstar doing a travel program for Siminn. He goes to remarkable places all around Iceland. Of course he had to visit Hjörtur Kjerúlf at Hrafnkelsstadir, the farmer who filmed the mysterious monster swimming in the river beneath his home in February. The Lagarfljot’s worm festival
The inhabitants of the region of lake Lagarfljot have an annual festival in late August named after the monster. Ormsteiti it is called, a full week of exhibitions, concerts, celebrations and gatherings with a little bit of carnival style here in the far north. And the lake monster of course is in the spotlight the whole week, appearing or not appearing. Check ormsteiti.is for more information.

In the summer 2007 there was an exhibition at Skriduklaustur where the Lagarfljotsormur was in focus. The lake monster of Lagarfljot appears once again!
Few days ago Hjortur Kjerulf, a farmer in Fljotsdalur valley East Iceland, recorded a remarkable video of some large creature swimming upstream in the river Jökulsa in Fljotsdal. That river is one of the main rivers that runs into the great lake Lagarfljot which is just 2 km away from the farmers home. Lake Lagarfljot is famous for begin very deep and for its monsterous wyrm that has appeared there ever since 1345. The video clip has now spread around the world with the question, is this the famous lake monster Lagarfljotsormur, or its baby.
